Although the jury is still out on Stephen Baldwin, one of our favorite things is Famous Christians. I have to admit, Scientology has kind of been kicking our butt for a few years. I mean they got Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kirstie Alley and Giovanni Ribisi. They even got Beck, dear sweet sounding Beck. But we’re not that concerned, want to know why? Because we have Bono. He’s worth like 18 other normal celebrities. Seriously, he is most of the most active, productive people on the planet. I almost wouldn’t be surprised if at some point he admitted that he had been cloned in the late 90s. How else can you explain his work in Africa, his concert tours and his ability to regularly put out good albums? Thank God for Bono.
Why create “Stuff Christians Like?”
Patricia Heaton!!!
Don't forget Beth Moore and Joyce Meyer. I always hear female Christians saying "I LOVE her!" "She's SO anointed!!" "I wish I could teach like her!" "She's so good she's really the only speaker I prefer to listen to." "I'm in a bad place, I need to take a Beth Moore study." … They are both awesome, but gosh, how abo
Bono is definitely blessed.
Colonel Sanders was a Christian! Started a franchise at 68 years old!
Terry Fator, the puppet guy who won "America's Got Talent," is also a Christian. He signed a 20 year $200 MILLION dollar contract with The Mirage.
How else could a 68 year old guy and a singer with puppets make hundreds of millions of dollars. It's all because of Jesus!
Kinda scary how so many folks reading (and writing) this blog think the modern formulaic version of American evangelical Christianity is the only one. Even just a couple books on the history and diversity of Christianity would humble them. The idea that one has to pray a certain prayer, "get saved" at a specific moment, believe x y and z about the person called Jesus, believe the bible is literal and inerrant, etc are all very culturally bound and time bound ideas. Christianity, on the other hand, is a huge ongoing conversation, much bigger than us and our modern Western notions of "faith=believe=thoughts" and other very very limited "Christian" ideas espoused around here. I hope all will take some time to actually read outside what so-called-Christian bookstores carry adn learn about the beautiful variety of theology found in this amazingly diverse Christian tradition.
Woo Bono!
Sometimes I wish the "famous Christians" would keep their mouth shut about it if they are going to cuss like sailors, get arrested, or strut around in barely any clothes. We're supposed to be different, right?
He is awesome in concert! I actually wrote about it and put a really, really poor video of him singing Amazing Grace on my blog http://www.faithimagined.com/2009/10/breakfast-wi… It was a once in a lifetime experience!
Way to go Bono! I loved the comment in the blog about him being worth "like 18 normal celebrities." Keep up the good work Jon, I really love reading your blog!
My church gave away Double passes to see U2 on Sunday – also gave away golf balls and a Wii (all for Father's day)
if my church thinks Bono is Christian… it must be true! :p
