Let’s hang out at Catalyst
Sep 25th by JonI went to the Catalyst Conference in Atlanta last year and loved it. This year looks like it’s going to be even more wicked awesome than last year.
If you’re going, let’s hang out. Here are two ways we can:
1. Free Skittle-a-thon-palooza
Wednesday, October 8, 6:30 – 7:20 pm, room 6ABC
On Wednesday, Catalyst is hosting creative labs. Mike Foster, xxxchurch.com, and a few other folks are speaking at 7:30pm. If you’ve signed up for the labs, please stop by room 6ABC in the convention center from 6:30 until 7:20pm so that I can give you free Skittles and tell you thanks for reading this site. We’ll be hanging out there, talking sarcastically, dreaming about worship eagles and changing the world. Plus, blog legend Anne Jackson might stop and tell us a little about her great new book, Mad Church Disease: Overcoming the Burnout Epidemic. Then we can all go over and check out Mike and Jud Wilhite’s Deadly Viper lab, which will be fantastic because that’s just how they roll.
2. World Largest Side Hug
Friday, October 10, 1:30 in front of the Convention Center
The theme of this year’s Catalyst is “Together” so I thought it might be good for us to do a group photo where we try to break the world record for largest side hug. (The current record is 4 people so it should be fairly easy to accomplish.) I’ll be wearing the official “Side Hug” t-shirt and will be easy to spot outside of the main entrance to the Convention Center. (You should get a t-shirt too, they come in a ton of styles and are fun to wear.)
If you haven’t signed up for Catalyst yet, I strongly encourage you to. The worship is amazing, the message is really encouraging and I think folks like Seth Godin, Dave Ramsey and many others are going to bring the house down this year. Click here to sign up.

Free skittles are always the best! Have you thought about having a giant side hug/skittle event in Ca? If so, let us know!
whoa! seth godin AND scl jon in the same place? this may cause a rift in dimensions.
I just found out my sister-in-law in NC has “Official SCL Skittles” from your visit to Oklahoma……brought to her by a wonderful friend….
to quote another great Georgian, Scarlett O’Hara, I am pea-green with envy…..because, dang it, I am only a hour away from SCL land……..
(and I don’t even like Skittles)
Jon, I’m not coming to Catalyst this year…AARRRGGHHHGHHGH! I hope we can still be friends.
Dave and I will be there…we drank the Kool-Aid and bought our SCL side hug T’s. We’ll miss the Skittle-a-thon because we are driving down from IL then, but we wouldn’t miss the side hug for the world. Maybe God will smile upon us and a worship eagle will descend like a dove into our midst.
See you there!
Heather (I didn’t want you to think Dave makes a habit of talking in 3rd person).
Oh I am going to cry, due to budget restraints and schedules my wife and I can’t go to catalyst this year and we are sad. now I am even sadder, because I might have reacted to you the way you reacted to Craig G. But, I will listen to the podcasts. BTW hit Dominicks in Norcross we always eat there Friday before we go home. again I am sad, i need a side hug
I was happy to see Jud Wilhite’s name in here…we went to the same Bible college (though not at the same time).
Awesome! I’m totally in for the world’s longest side hug!
By the way, not sure if you know but there is a big Bloggers Meetup Thursday night in conjunction with Catalyst. It’s right down the road from the convention center.
Details and signup information are at Bloggers08.com. It would be awesome if you could stop by!
I can’t wait to crash your party, Acuff!
Sooooo wish I could be there! I’ve wanted to go to Catalyst for a couple of years now, and I even used the curriculum with my youth group. It would be even greater with skittles and side hugs, I’m sure! I’m just wayyyy too poor for awesome conferences that go on an hour from my house, even with a full time student discount!
Dear Jon:
come by the Zondervan booth and hang out with other cool people at Catalyst. Heck, we might even give you something free just because your are the antithesis of Chritian cool.
Tom
whoops…typed too fast. Meant to say you are, not your are – thats what happens when you have too many things going on at once.
see u in 2 weeks!
hhmmm… New Mexico, Georgia uuummm nope.
I may live on a street called Georgia but the real Georgia is quite a distance away and I can’t go on a college student budget. Maybe I should send out mission trip letters for Catalyst. Maybe not because what would I say, I need to go so I can eat skittles and give side hugs? Yeah I don’t think that would go over too well.
Oh my gosh, will you have Side Hug tees available for sale on site? I will have to buy several, seriously.
“wicked awesome”? wicked awesome! (You New Englander, you.)
Didn’t I see somewhere that you were giving away scholarships? Can I get more details?
Tom -
I’ll definitely be stopping by the Zondervan booth.
Jon

Fear not, we’re still best friends.
Jon
Donna-
Hopefully at some point I’ll be scattering skittles across Georgia. Probably from a hot air balloon or some sort of blimp device.
Jon
Come by the Dave Ramsey booth. Free T-shirt, and this year we won’t give 5,000 people the same “Don’t Conform” shirt. (Oh, the irony!)
Is the world record 4 IN A CHURCH?! Because I’ve been in a side hug of more than 4 people just at Thanksgiving.
AND…Jon Acuff, you should come write a verse in the America’s NIV
