Latest Twitter: Golfing tomorrow with in-laws. Last time I played, 2 years ago, I lost 23 balls in 18 holes. p.s. I stink at golf.

Close block

$24,000 in the first day.

Nov 9th by Jon

What opening sentence do you possibly write for this post? I’ve got no opener, other than “whoa.”

And that feels wildly inadequate.

Maybe, I’ll just repeat the title.

We raised $24,000 in about 15 hours. That is bananas.

We are a mere $6,000 away from our initial goal of $30,000 to build a kindergarten in Vietnam. And I’m working with Samaritan’s Purse on what happens when we go over.

Does anything feel impossible to you right now? Don’t you feel like we can do anything in this moment? Doesn’t this seem like one of those times where you laugh and tell a friend, “Oh that’s right, God is huge! I forget that for a second, that He keeps $30,000 in loose change in His massive Frisbee He uses for disc golf. That $30,000 is a breath to Him.”

OK, you might not have had that exact thought, but you can’t watch this today and think God is small. Or that blogs are just blogs.

I think we can hit our goal in the first 48 hours. I’ve been blown away by the $5 gifts and think that before 5AM on Wednesday, they are going to pile up and we will hit $30,000.

You up for that?

If you’ve already given, thank you so much for doing something that feels impossible in an economy like this one. If you haven’t, I need to warn you, there’s a celebrity guest stopping by tomorrow who will probably convince you. His name starts with a C and he’s a crazy frequent flyer.

Until then …

Goal met! This is beyond awesome!

huggiesgirl Nov 10, 2009

Doing a little victory dance in my chair at the office… wooo, wooo, yeah, yeah!

Other than seeing SCL history made today, I was also incredibly amused (and sometimes inspired) by the comments made on the donations page.
We have some keen Star Wars and Indiana Jones fans. And lots of incredibly cool kids putting in their share and inspiring us "older" people.

I donated my allowance for the next week and you know what I love best? That every time I go to buy a coffee, book, whatever and I DON'T have the money, I'll get this happy little glow all over again and walk away so excited by what the Lord can ignite in our hearts when we believe! Thanks, Jon for, once again, my weekly thump on the head (and it's not even Serious Wednesday!)

AliciaMc Nov 10, 2009

wow. What a friggin' amazing day. God is good, and is able to do mighty things when his church stops holding him back. I, for one, have been thoroughly chastened in my unbelief from earlier today, and have been compulsively pressing my refresh button. Absolutely in awe right now.

Toni Nov 10, 2009

Waaahhooooooo! Go God!

CMayo Nov 10, 2009

Ooooh!!! Let's do something with The International Justice Mission next!!!! Yippeee!!!!

Kevin Ring Nov 10, 2009

Let's not stop!

The fact that we raised $30K is going to draw some attention, we need to leverage that and pray that this blessing is multiplied by 5000!

eastern ky pastor Nov 10, 2009

Does the $30K also include the 10% administrative cost, Jon? I am so incredibly amazed. I've been at a Pastors Conference today and heard some incredibly inspired preaching, but that pales in comparrison to the sermon of deeds we've seen today! Who would have thought that some little blog about how silly we Christians could be, would one day change the world for some 6 year olds in Vietnam?

Cam Nov 10, 2009

Well when your day ended on the east coast, it was still prime time here on the west coast…I'm excited for when you wake up and see it was met, and in less than 24 hours!

God is just so good!

Aash Nov 10, 2009

crazy mate!! God is beyond fantastic! Goal reached and exceeded!

Carole Turner Nov 10, 2009

I Love it!!! It was such a crazy idea, too big for you, audacious and you should have never even dared to try this BUT GOD! HA! He's good. He likes when we step out and try something that can ONLY be Him. Trust Him, He is good. So happy for you. So happy for the new school!

akarlen Nov 10, 2009

This is such a beautiful reminder of how God is so good and how he continually wrecks us (or our thoughts, plans, deadlines, etc.). I definitely agree with whoever looked at December 31 and thought it was too soon. God's definitely bigger.

Charlotte Nov 10, 2009

I'm so blown away right now!
I love God, because he's so huge and can do anything and everything beyond what I could even imagine.
I love the community that has grown up around this blog, because they're allowing God to use them to do something amazing.

Geoff Nov 10, 2009

School a week til Christmas?

joanna Nov 10, 2009

Maybe next could be an elementary school for when they graduate kindergarten….then a highschool…..then a vocational training college…….. how awesome would that be?

thewinekat Nov 10, 2009

Am just so blown away by what can be acheived where there's a will… Good work, Jon, using your influence to create something so awesome. Woop woop!

Way over before 8:00 a.m. Praise God!

Julie Nov 10, 2009

This whole thing happened on a day I didn't hang out at my computer. So I'm going to echo my favorite comment from the donation page: What can we do next Monday?

I promise I'll show up and be a part of it next time!

So cool that you stepped out in faith like this, Jon. Thanks for inviting us all to participate.
