Charities who will get free advertising on Stuff Christians Like

Nov 18th by Jon

A few weeks ago, I asked us to all vote for two charities that should get free advertising for a month on Stuff Christians Like. The winners of that vote were Compassion International and xxxchurch.com. So they’re going to get a 125 banner over there on the left hand side. If you work with either of those organizations please email me with a banner and a link you’d like me to connect to. And because I love what they do, I’m going to give a spot to amanikids too. Thanks for helping me be a good steward of this platform.

Side hugs and Razzle Dazzle,

Jon

Thanks Jon. We love free advertising. And we're fans of your blog too. I work on Compassion's Web team, and we'll definitely get you a banner soon.

I'm glad that Compassion was one of the winners. I'm a big fan of what they do and how they do it.

Woo-hoo, I am really glad that xxxchurch won! I think they are a perfect fit with your platform.

I am going through a list on my blog right now from XXXChurch on how to love your neighbor. Great church! I am so thankful you choose them. Thank you!

Excellent – XXX wins again (gosh that is so wrong taken out of context).

Cool! Both of these are great and deserving ministries!

XXX Church is a "Charity"? oh puke.
Yes, lets worry about people looking at porn. It's so much more important then, you know, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the imprisoned, and caring for the sick.
I'm sure Jesus would be proud.

Amnesty International? Oxfam? SOS Children's Village? Unicef?

Oh that's right…these charities don't care about converting people or butting into the sex lives of consenting adults so the couldn't possibly be deserving. I will take comfort in knowing that there are many many Christians out there who don't have such skewed priorities.

You need to calm down a bit and stop being so rude. Just because your choice of charities wasn't chosen doesn't mean the ones that are aren't worthwhile.

Yes, xxxchurch is maybe not a "traditional" charity. It is however an organization that seems to be helping a lot of people in an area may are struggling in. I've seen the very destructive consequences of people not being able to get help for such issues. I also know of many people who have found xxxchurch and similar organizations very helpful.

You will notice that the other supported charities, compassion and amanikids are involved in feeding, clothing and caring for children in poverty. You also might notice that over the last few weeks this site has raised tens of thousands of dollars to build kindergartens for children who need them.

I think you owe people an apology for treating their efforts at helping people so rudely.

I'm not sure XXX church's role is to butt "into the sex lives of consenting adults" either. It's largely for people who have identified that porn is a problem for them. XXX church exists to help those people find a way out, through God. Similar to Alcoholics Anonymous or any other group supporting and advocating for freedom from addictive practices. These groups ARE worthy of our time, attention and support.

On the flip side of that, someone who has chosen to work in the pornography or sex industry may feel like they cannot approach God or be worthy of his love because their choices don't match up with the morals and values ascribed to by the Christian church. That's a lie. XXX church is one church that bothers to let those people know that it is a lie. Most of us (including myself, if I'm honest) choose to isolate ourselves and not associate with these people.

We're only just learning to be different, and XXX church is showing us how. Please don't put down their work.

God invented sex, it doesn't bother him. He's not asking his children to go barging into other peoples homes and demand if they have the right to be doing whatever it is they're doing, and convert them while they do it.
But he does want his children to love and respect each other, and that involves not objectifying or belittling people until they are no more than an object of desire.
