Let’s build a 2nd kindergarten.

I spoke with Samaritan’s Purse this morning and they’re really excited. I asked them what we could do next and they mentioned there is a second kindergarten in Vietnam that needs to be built.

I think we should raise $30,000 more to do it. Here’s why:

1. There are more than 200 kids in Vietnam who would like to go to kindergarten.

We raised money to build a kindergarten for more than 200 kids. Let’s do it again and give more kids the chance to go to school. t

2. A lot of people missed the chance to be part of this.

About 75,000 to 90,000 unique people read Stuff Christians Like every month. Yesterday, 7,780 did. That means tons of people missed the 18 hour window to give. A lot of people said “I was waiting until my payday to give” or “I wanted to give later this week.” I don’t want anyone to miss the chance to be part of the joy of giving. I want as many people as possible to feel like the have the chance to jump in on this adventure.

3. I don’t think God is done.

4. We can do this.

We raised the first $30,000 in 18 hours. I think we can raise the second $30,000 by December 31, 2009. I believe that the Stuff Christians Like community can do some ridiculous things with God.

We’re going to build a second school instead of pouring more into the first kindergarten because the schools don’t receive funds that way. There’s government funding in place for the first kindergarten so we can focus on a second kindergarten in Vietnam. I will have more info from Samaritan’s Purse tomorrow as far as the exact location of the second one.

Tomorrow, we’re launching what I think is going to be one of the funniest things Stuff Christians Like has ever done in support of this. I think is going to be awesome. Regular programming on SCL will resume next Monday. I didn’t intend to do this all week, but I want to be a good steward of what is happening.

In the meantime, click here to donate.

And follow me on twitter and join the conversation with the tag #SCLVIETNAM

Let’s raise a total of $60,000. More details tomorrow. My lunch break is almost over and I need to bounce.

Here we go again. Great challenge to continue to give and give some more.
Lets do it again.

Nick the Geek Nov 10, 2009

Personally I think we should shoot for the gold and push for $90000, which would build all three kindergartens and also additional monies to help pay ongoing expenses. Dream big because we serve a big God.

StacyFromLouisville Nov 10, 2009

"Shoot for gold?" Dude, that's pavement in heaven…

huggiesgirl Nov 10, 2009

Stacy, I don't know you at all, but I miss seeing your photo on your comments. It would come up on the old blogger site, but now I have to look twice when I see comments from anyone called "Stacy" something to be sure it's you. Sigh. I suppose a little effort doesn't hurt…

StacyFromLouisville Nov 11, 2009

Hey Girl! You're so nice. The bottom line is that I'm a computer dork. Can't figure how to get my mug on the site! I have the same problem on Twitter. In other news I just figured out how to program the VCR…

joanna Nov 11, 2009

You're doing better than me when it comes to the VCR, i still don't know how to program mine.

Have you registered for an intense debate account?

Sweet!! I was waiting for payday too :)

[...] Update: The first $30K came in and now we’re donating towards a second school. [...]

Brett Barner Nov 10, 2009

I was secretly hoping we'd do this! Awesome!

Shelly in Vegas Nov 10, 2009

Yesterday I was thinking I would wait for payday, but as the excitement was building (read: constantly refreshing the page) I thought – Oh heck with it, I'll just do a little today because I want to join in the Awesome-God-Ness that was happening.

Guess what – today IS payday and now I get throw in some bricks to help build the 2nd kindergarten as well as the first. Yahoooie!!

dewde Nov 10, 2009

I still think it's crazy and it'll never work :-) .

Agreed. This is an exercise in futility.

Kyle Reed Nov 10, 2009

I thought that yesterday, well at least I thought it would take a long time.
But now I am starting to realize that what I think will not work God punches me in the face with.

i have friends who've asked if you (jon) can set up a paypal?
evidently firstgiving's software doesn't like some international credit cards…
just a question, so no one misses out.

David Nov 10, 2009

If you have a Paypal account you have the solution at your fingertips. If you install the browser plugin, you can have paypal generate a one time use CC# for you to use. The funds come out of your Paypal account. I do this for making purchases online if it is not a site i know well.

Nick the Geek Nov 10, 2009

I do this with my regular credit card, I didn't know paypal had this ability as well. I will be using it since I prefer to use my debit card instead of credit.

Jana Nov 10, 2009

I didn't know you could do this! Tried to donate yesterday and it wouldn't accept my card. Will try Paypal later… :)

Jana Nov 10, 2009

Says the plugin is no longer available. :( Any other ideas? I only have a UK Visa Debit card…

joanna Nov 11, 2009

Maybe you could send the money via paypal to a friend who has a valid credit card?

Zac Nov 10, 2009

I am so thankful to get this opportunity. Yesterday was one of those Monday's I was stuck in meetings all day and didn't have a chance to check my Google Reader. I read later on twitter that you met your goal and was bummed. Now I got to give towards a second school. Keep up the good work. I think at this rate we could hit 90,000 by Monday!

Zac Nov 10, 2009

I didn't mean I was bummed you met your goal, just that I didn't get to participate. While that was a dumb thing to say.

Zac Nov 10, 2009

*Wow not while. Geez

maretta Nov 10, 2009

Must be the Monday meetings…

Shelly in Vegas Nov 10, 2009

Dear Zac… stop digging LOL

Lesley Nov 10, 2009

Awesome! I can't wait to see this happen!

StacyFromLouisville Nov 10, 2009

Comment community: There is an area in the donations section for businesses to give matching contributions. Since we're coming to the end of the year many, many businesses want the write off. Anyone know of businesses who would get on board? Think BIG….

@lordd1 Nov 10, 2009

Mr. Acuff lives in the homeland of Home Depot……….i'm just sayin'…….

joanna Nov 11, 2009

Good idea!

Becky Miller Nov 10, 2009

I am so excited about this. So full of joy. I've been doing the emo-God thing WAY too much lately, but last night, instead of laying in bed feeling sad or upset or miserable, I actually woke up several times just because I was so joyful about this. I love me some sleeps, but I didn't mind waking up and going, "Wow, God is so good!" and falling back to sleep happy.

huggiesgirl Nov 10, 2009

Comment from the donation page: "Can we name the school? Something like Razzle Dazzle Elementary? "

Yeah, can we? That would be sooooo cool! :)

Shelly in Vegas Nov 10, 2009

Sounds good to me. I wonder how that translates to Vietnamese? Maybe "Sparkly School" or something LOL

StacyFromLouisville Nov 11, 2009

Sparkly makes me nervous. It has sequin implications. We don't want to endorse that in any way.

huggiesgirl Nov 11, 2009

Hm, good call.

But the alternative is some variation of Jon's crazy church name… or something worship-eagle / side-hug flavoured, hehe.

What about "L E Acuff House"? :)

Nathan Nov 10, 2009

This is just incredible Jon. It's enough to coax me out of lurking status and into your army of commenters.

I thank God for your creativity and this tremendous application of it.

Christinah86 Nov 11, 2009

Can't wait to see what crazy plans God has next :)

I love that I am included in His crazy plans…

LOVE IT!!

Mandi Nov 11, 2009

If we can do this, imagine how many other needs God can use us to meet!

sherrymeneley Nov 11, 2009

This is blowing my mind. God continues to blow my mind when He rallies caring hearts and like minds into one cause. Blows my mind.

D_Fish Nov 11, 2009

It pumps me up to see what we're capable of when God's kids are generous!

joanna Nov 11, 2009

Bloggers, don't forget there is a widget you can use to feature this on your own blog

Nathan Nov 11, 2009

Great stuff. Although it does occur to me that one of the things Christians like is to say in a somber tone..

"I don't think God is done."

Kim C Nov 11, 2009

I read this today and thought it applied: "We can talk about the unlikely, we can sing about the unlikely, but people need to see the unlikely." – James E. Cossey

Michael B Nov 11, 2009

Argh! Tried to donate but had the same problem as others with international cards. I think it's really cool to see God working so obviously in this cause. It's amazing what such a small amount of faith (like saying, hey we're gonna try something big and hope God helps is) can lead to something so massive. It's humbling how something like this really exposes how small our view of God is.
