Visit my dad’s new church

Nov 7th by Jon

Most of what I write about, speak about, laugh about is just an offshoot of what I saw my dad do first. That’s why I’m excited that he started a new church in Durham, North Carolina called the Gathering Church.

Tomorrow is their first Sunday. If you live in the area, visit and tell him I sent you. For more info visit their site, allgather.org. Details about Sunday are also pasted below:

Gathering Church

Starting at 10:30 am.

Creekside Elementary

5331 Ephesus Church Road

Durham NC 27707

Been there., done that and it was great!

I went to their first Sunday Morning back in October when I was home for the weekend visiting my family. He got right in the Word and pulled out some meaty stuff.

I live in Texas, so I can't go. But I just wanted to say that I like that it is located on Ephesus Church Road.

When is the Stuff Christians like Christian Community Church starting?
Just wondering…..we could say stuff like "are you going to SCL tomorrow?" Or did you here the sermon about "God booty God?"

That would be an epic church. Imagine all the cool things it could have
- A metrosexual worship leader training school, with special elective units on hair styling
- A coffee store where all the coffee comes in scripture sippers
- A whole fleet of youth group vans

The possibilities are endless

This can’t possibly be your dad’s church. The name is all wrong!! What were you thinking? Didn’t you advise him about creating a relevant and über-holy name?? sigh. Another church lost in the chasm of boring, short church names. tic

joanna Nov 9, 2009

No, now that everyone else is doing relevant, über-holy names having a short plain name is what all the cool, slightly rebellious people do

That's funny…our church is called The Gathering Place. :)

I actually do live in Durham, but I do already have a church home. That's very cool, though!

I loved your dad's blog posts. It made me wish I lived remotely in the same part of the country to be able to go. It's great that they are starting that kind of church.

I actually learned about you from podcasting your dad's sermon's. Any pastor who can explain a flat curl route in such a way that my wife can remember it and recognize one on TV is one heck of a communicator! We don't live in the Tirangle now but we certainly are praying for Gathering Church.

What happened to the church in Chapel Hill (Go Heels!)?

I'm from Durham, so next time I'm home from college, I'll have to check it out!
