Shameless Saturday!

Jan 9th by Jon

What’s your blog?

What’s your cause? What’s your band? What’s your book?

What’s the link you want people to see more than anything else?

I hereby declare this “Shameless Saturday.”

Post a link to whatever it is you’re all about with no shame or apologizing or feeling like you’re making a comment on a post you really don’t care about but are instead secretly trying to pimp your own blog. (I’ve done that myself many times. The best way to do it is to say, “That’s an interesting post. It reminds me of something I wrote recently on my blog ….” Sometimes when people do that it’s actually a good link to something they wrote that is similar to what was written on another post. But when I was coming up, on 8 mile, just trying to rock the mic at any chance I was given, that was definitely one of the techniques I employed.)

Please, use the comments this weekend to let us know about your blog or your cause or your band or your whatever. The Internets are so big it’s hard to find everything cool. (I try to do Shameless Saturday once a season, so please consider this the Winter edition.)

Tell us what’s up with a link.

Hey guys.

Most of you have probably heard of what's going on in the Caribbean of late, but if you haven't, here's what's up.

Big earthquake has torn up Port-au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti, which is one of the most impoverished places on the planet.

It's also important to me because it's where my adoptive brother was born, and where the families of several of my friends live.

Communications are down all over the country, and it'll honestly be a while before we figure out who's alive and who isn't.

If any of you could donate a buck to help with the relief, I can promise you I've worked with the organization that's doing this, and they're as legit as it gets. If you can't, please pass the word on.

Thanks.

It's been a couple months since I've updated my blog, but I'm hopefully going to write something new within the next few days. It's not usually about what goes on during my day– just thoughts about God, my struggles, the roller coaster we call life, and community.

I meant to post the link to my blog, although my name is the link.

Our blog is http://www.exploitsforgod.com. We feature a variety of Christian resources, information and other cool stuff. We also aim to encourage Christians to use the power God puts in us to do great things for Him. – with love, and appreciation for shameless Saturday, Byron @ Exploits for God.

So I'm a week late to the party, but it IS Saturday, so let me plug my life-long cause.

When I was 12 I decided I wanted to adopt all my future children, because I knew a family who had done just that and I heard about what the kids' lives would've been like if they had not been adopted by this family, based on the countries/situations they had been born into. I think my parents/friends thought I would change my mind eventually, but I have never wavered. Thankfully, God gave me a husband who had decided before we even met that he also wanted to adopt his kids. After five wonderful years of marriage, we began the process of our first adoption last July and hope to have our child/ren (we don't know who they are yet) home by this July. We are adopting internationally because that is where our hearts are, though we encourage people to adopt from anywhere they can. We are starting with Ethiopia.

Anyway. So. My cause is not just our own adoption-in-progress and adoptions-yet-to-come, but to convince others to at least consider adopting as well, even if they have birth kids too. I recommend everyone out there read "Adopted for Life" by Russell Moore, whether they're considering adoption or not.

Also, if you have any fundraising ideas, do let us know. We've had a garage sale and sold some things on eBay, but we're still, oh, $15,000 short of what we will need in the next few months. Thankfully we are wise with our money and the only loan we have is our mortgage, but that's still a lot of money. If anyone wants to help (via prayer or tax deductible donation) or follow our adventure, you can find info at our adoption blog: http://living-blossoms.blogspot.com/

I realize that I am late in doing this and perhaps no one will read it, but I just got this information. Josh Sundquist had a leg amputated, due to cancer, when he wasn't yet a teenager (I think I have my facts right). He is a speaker, paralympian, and now a first time author. The site below will give you opportunity to buy his book and to have him come speak to your group for free.

K – I'm an attention whore, because I've got 2.

My personal blog: http://life-love-books.blogspot.com (it's my place to rant randomly, religion, gree living, banks, politics, personal issues – yup, it's all there)

And professional: http://kidsstacks.blogspot.com/ (this is my blog about children's literature, directed at parents, care givers and educators – to hopefully encourage them to read every day to their kids and encourage a lifelong love of reading)

Mandi Jan 23, 2010

Just saw this today, and decided to look at my blog, I haven't written since August 09 (knew it had been awhile, but dang…). Started writing it before what I like to think of as my "God pulled me from the pit" moment about 3 years ago – when I rededicated my life to Christ. Have been astounded at how much the Lord has shown me Himself, but can still feel defeated at times by my sin and trials that seem to keep happening. So the more recent entries are mostly about what I learned in my quiet times, and other moments where I felt that God was teaching me. It's interesting to see the transition. Oh yeah, and only my Mom, a few other family members and maybe two friends read it…

Thanks for 'the microphone' Jon. ;)

I blog the quotes of the late, great Bishop of Liverpool, J.C. Ryle (1816-1900) @ J.C. Ryle Quotes

Enjoy some God-exalting, Christ-centered, Gospel-saturated quotes from yesteryear.
