1st sentence of the Stuff Christians Like book.
Feb 3rd by JonWe’re less than 2 months away from the release of the Stuff Christians Like book. I thought it might be fun to tell you the first sentence of the book since a lot of weight comes from the opening. Here is how the Stuff Christians Like book opens:
“If you buy this book, God will make you rich.”
That is literally the very first line of the book. And then it gets kind of crazy from there. (Click here to order the book for only $8.76 from Amazon or click here to order from Barnes & Noble or get an autographed copy here. )
There’s actually a review up already from someone that got an early copy. It’s a great review and I appreciate the way he broke it down. His one edit of the book was that he wished there were more serious Wednesday type posts. I completely get that but at the same time felt like putting 7 serious essays in the book was the most that a satirical vehicle could take.
And to be honest with you, right now I am pitching a second book to publishers called “Only Wednesday,” which is a brand new collection of Serious Wednesday posts.
Anyway, check out the review. He’s got some great info in there.

I cannot WAIT for this book to be released! And no, I won't pray for patience, you know what happens then….
Personal Testimony: The rich thing is totally true! I preordered and bam! Someone from Asia wanted to send me $3 million from a distant dead realtive. Of course I gave them all my information immediately. I haven't told Dan yet because I want him to be so very surprised. If it weren't for SCL I'd still be totally average. Thanks for making me what I am today!
you're welcome, I appreciate you letting people know that I am making it rain
Okay, and I am officially lame. Just read the review and realized that was something Jon wrote in the book.
I still think you're a funny girl, though. Of course.
It was bad enough having to wait for your first book . . . now I'm anxious for the second one, too!
I sure hope this book works. I've been trying so many ways to get rich… hopefully you're nicer than Dave Ramsey because he wants me to budget and stuff. I'm really hoping that upon buying your book, I will simply wake up with money. That's my goal.
I'd LOVE it if you came out with a Serious Wednesdays book. When can we expect that one??
Really nice review…I ordered two copies, one for myself and one for my oldest daughter who is a college student who follows your blog.
going to clean out my wallet now to make some room…
That's some good thinking ahead Joyce
"Stuff Christians Like: The Book C.S. Lewis Would Have Written If He Had Been 40% More Sarcastic or 100% Less Dead".
I put my head down on my desk and laughed myself silly.
That is hilarious!
Oh, Stacy. That got a hearty laugh out loud from me. You are too funny, girl.
ordering my copy now
I just ordered an autographed copy. I'll probaby forget about it and be really surprised when it comes in the mail in April
I just read the sample chapter that he linked to, and I am SOO excited to get my copy!
smart to start autographing those books right now.
pioneer woman had a book tour that all but crippled her book-signing hand.
thanks for sharing the review.
gonna go vote for will @ pepsi now. go east nashville!
I'd love to get an autographed copy, but living outside the US the shipping would cost me more than the book! Still, I just finally pre-ordered a couple of copies from Amazon UK. I strongly suspect I'll be back for more when certain friends' birthdays roll around!
I'm guessing this sentence from the review stopped you in your tracks, Jon:
"It also shows that Jon does what any good humorist does: he uses humor as a path to bring people somewhere else, whether that is a place of joyful relief, a needy village in Vietnam, or to the very heart of God."
With great power comes great responsibility, right?
On a lighter note, I'm even more excited for the book now!!
Great review. So glad I've finally found a confirmation of God's wealth plan for me.
What made you decide to call it "Only Wednesday" instead of "Serious Wednesday"? They're both good titles, but you've already branded the heartfelt stuff as "Serious Wednesday."
I like the Only Wednesday idea! I hope they pick it up for you.
I will buy an "Only Wednesday" book when it's available!
I was thinking it would be a good idea for you to do a Wednsday book too.
Great minds and all that…
can't wait… and "only wednesday' sounds awesome!!
Yeah, I like that name, too!
The concept is great but I'm not sure that the title is so good. Wouldn't make any sense to non SCL readers
I just ordered my copy. I'm so glad I didn't miss out on the autographed copies.
The countdown to the release of this book is in full swing in my house. Totally pumped about it.
I'm stoked to hear you're doing a book on Serious Wednesday posts. Every time I think of what your next book project should be, that is the most obvious. Plus, it kicks categories to the curb. You can't be just "that sarcastic Christian guy" if you come out with the "Only Wednesdays" book … you will defy categorization, and that seems like a good thing to me. Because God is always about new things that defy expectation.
… And shoot. Now I'm impatient to get the new book, too. (I mean the new-new book … the one you haven't written yet!)
Exciting!
when can i pre-order "only wednesday"?
I want to be rich, do you provide investment advice in the book?
lol
I understand – I'll be richer for reading it
