Vote for the Acuffs.
Feb 1st by Jon
My brother Will recently submitted an idea he calls “Clean East” to Pepsi about cleaning up East Nashville. Hoping to live out the deed part of the gospel in the neighborhoods he lives in, Will’s idea actually got accepted by Pepsi. Let’s vote it into the top 10 today if we can.

Does Pepsi know your bother plans on proselytizing? Uncool.
Is your question, does Pepsi know that if asked why he's picking needles and trash off the streets and cleaning up East Nashville if my brother will tell people he's doing it because he loves East Nashville and the Lord? I couldn't begin to tell you. My assumption is that they'll clean the streets first and foremost and if they have a chance to be honest about their faith they will.
The real question is when are you going to get a tattoo like that?
Thank you for focusing on the issues Ryan. That's a Picasso painting and the answer for my arm is "never"
what do you mean by "never"?
My brother's assumption is correct. We'll be cleaning up the streets, in fact, we already are. If someone wants to know my motivation I'd be happy to share it with them. Otherwise we'll just work together to get empty needles off of the local library steps. As I understand it the Gospel is word and deed. Clean East focuses on Deed.
I hate Pepsi but I shall vote for your brother
I'm not sure that it took my vote. Anyone else had problems?
Anna –
It took a minute for mine to take too.
I think it’s great, Will. Our church, partnering with several other churches in town did the Big Serve late last year where we all went out to different parts of town and picked up trash. It helped that we all had matching t-shirts and we did it on a Sunday!
I tried to vote, but their iPhone page leaves a bit to be desired. I’ll try again later.
Thank you very much! My church and I are learning how to put Jeremiah's message in 29:17 into action– 'But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.'
Acuff dudes – you got my vote
okay, or even a more important question…will, do you know that i had to look at this picture for MINUTES to decide if you were jack shepherd (with longer hair) from LOST or not?
eventually i read the post and figured it out, but it got me at first.
oh, and yes, i voted
Thanks Kristen!
I don't like Pepsi either, but I voted for Clean East.
The Acuff brothers like big watches and they cannot lie.
(Also, they both like doing stuff to help people, which is cool. I voted for Will!)
Please note that my watch serves dual purpose as a heart rate monitor…last time I checked Jon's was just telling time (said with much brotherly love).
You got my vote. I was a little concerned that I already had an account with Pepsi. Sigh … But, after having driven through East Nashville, this is way cool. So, will the Acuff brothers soon be ruling the world?
I voted and posted it to fb for my friends from Nash-vegas (don't live there myself anymore, but went to high school at good ol' John Overton and my family's still in and around the area!).
Fortunately, Pepsi does not require that you _drink_ their products in order to vote. I have an uncle-in-law who just retired from Coke. Pepsi products are forbidden in our household in order to keep us in the will (plus they taste better and melt…I mean clean…pennies faster).
Voted. Clean east is currently ranked 10th
Voted. My lil' Sis just moved there for work.
Very cool. I voted!
Our church does an annual "Takin' It to the Streets" project to help motivate us to get out into the community and do the work that needs to be done. But even cooler, some of our youth undertook amazing projects recently – feeding thousands at Thanksgiving and collecting thousands of jackets for those who needed them when the temps in Florida reached record lows this year. Putting God's love in to action is what it's all about. Nice job Will!
Do you have dates planned for this? I live in Cookeville.
We've done several already, but if awarded the grant we would target 1 per month, April through September. Ideally we'll go from one section of the neighborhood to the next targeting roughly 63,000 people in East Nashville. There are a few schools that we already have connections with, so with a bit of funding we can really make a big push. Thanks!
Good job, guys! Your parents must be proud of both of you.
As someone who lives in East (big ups to the 37206, holla), I think this is great! I love the idea of empowering the youth and community members of our area and actually giving them a sense of investment and maybe even pride in our part of town. You've got my vote!
oh and btw, with all of the negative messages that are already being "preached" loudly to youth in East Nashville that are transforming people's lives in an incredibly negative, I do not see why Pepsi should have any problem with people practically sharing the Gospel through whatever means necessary so that true, positive, redemptive transformation occurs.
I voted for you. It has already changed my life. I threw away a candy wrapper under my desk. Thanks for that.
Yes, I did vote for you, btw.
Good on ya. One more vote come'n atcha from the west coast.
Neat. I voted for his project.
I like that idea!
I voted. I live in Australia and have no concept of East Nashville, but that's ok. I was walking home from my local library the other day admiring how clean, beautiful, and safe our country is to live in. Anything that helps someone else experience that pleasure.
Cast my vote. Love the idea.
There is a certain family resemblance – that look in the eyes perhaps….
Voted.
Voting for him.
That's very awesome!
Hey Jon – this is a vote once a day deal, I hope you are planning on reminding us …
Kelly, Good call. Jon is going to post a reminder towards the end of the month, but if you can encourage your friends and family to vote once a day that would be amazing. Thanks so much!
Thanks so much everyone! Thanks to your support Clean East is ranked 2nd this morning. Please keep spreading the word so it sustains this position through February. Anyone in the area is more than welcome to come join us on our April cleanup if they'd like to see their vote put into action.
using nepotism for good.
acuffs do indeed influence (if not rule) the world.
will spread the word and vote daily.
I have a strong aversion to anything Pepsi but I made an exception this time so that I could vote for this great idea!
Thanks Kevin! Remember you can vote again every day–we've slipped to #8 so we need your help!!
I just voted again and I will do my best to remember to vote every day until the 28th! I hope you win!
