This is probably the suggestion I have received the most and the only reason I have been slow to write about it is that I can’t really remember the last great boycott we Christians had. I mean I expected a bigger outburst at the movie “Golden Compass” and now that Harry Potter is gone I’m not sure what we have left. Disney has been quiet of late, at this point protesting MTV for being too skanky is like yelling at the ocean for being too wet, and I don’t think God has been “removed” from anything lately. Those are my favorite emails, when someone emails me and says, “The ten commandments at Jimmy Jack’s Pizza Shack are being removed!! If we cannot enjoy the cheesy goodness of all you can eat pizza pie under the shadow of the ten commandments, all is lost. Rise up pizza eaters, it’s time to take it to the streets!”
I once marched in a rally wearing a sandwich board about some boycott when I was a little kid. The only thing I remember is that a lot of cars yelled at me. Oh, and I wore a trash can once because I wanted to be in the paper. And when I got to the rally with my wife’s family, the organizers loved the trash can idea so much they put me up on stage with a bunch of veterans. It was a little embarrassing but I long ago conquered humility, so I was alright.
I actually had two things I thought about boycotting recently and honestly don’t think a boycott is bad by nature. I would rather have a well done boycott spread light on a real issue than have hatemongers wearing Christian masks be the only thing the world sees when it comes to a boycott.
(Thanks to many readers for this suggestion, the “removing” idea was from the KH family.)
