The first date for the world tour is all set.
I’ve been asked to be one of the keynote speakers at MinistryCOM 2008, a church marketing conference in Oklahoma City, September 18 and 19. I really like this organization and think it will be a fun chance to engage 500+ people in a new way to communicate. Hope you can make it.
I realize that a world tour should really have more than one date and probably go somewhere international but no one in Singapore is returning my calls.
I’m blown away by the opportunity and will probably be speaking about the love letter God writes graphic designers, copywriters, communication directors and anyone else creative in Exodus.
In addition to the conference, there are two things I hope to accomplish in Oklahoma:
1. Connect with Craig
Some friends at LifeChurch are trying to get me on Craig Groeschel’s calendar. Unless you’re a church dork like me, that doesn’t mean anything. But it’s like a sixth grader trying to shoot some hoops with Kobe Bryant. Chances are we won’t connect but if we don’t, I’m going to stand outside his office window like John Cusack in “Say Anything.” I’ll have a boombox over my head, but won’t be playing “In Your Eyes.” I’ll be blasting “Our God is an Awesome God.”
2. Connect with some Churches
If at all possible, I’d love to speak at some area churches or a coffeehouse or something. I’ve talked with a bunch of youth ministers but so far nothing is concrete. If you’ve got a church that is cool with having “Tonight Jon Acuff, author of Stuff Christians Like and posts such as ‘Booty God Booty'” in your bulletin let me know.
And in book news, I’m still sending out chapter 2, Bumper Stickers. I thought I would have them all out on Sunday, but the response has been bigger than I anticipated. If you want a copy, email me at [email protected] with “free 1 and 2” in the subject line.
That’s it for now. I think I’m going to title the tour, “God is Ridiculous” because that’s what this whole thing has been. Thanks for reading and commenting. I continue to tell people that on this site, the comments are usually funnier and more insightful than the post and that’s all you.
