In the summer of 2005, I may have gone a little overboard with how excited I was about my faith. It started with me trying to read through the entire Bible in 40 days. I picked 40 days because it felt extra holy and spiritual and because I am dumb.
I used to sit in my car before work started for like 2 hours. People would take multiple smoke breaks and see some weird kid out there engrossed in the Bible. Eventually that inappropriate bonfire in my head faded and I started a more reasonable approach to the Bible.
I am now in the 17th month of my one year Bible study. What should have taken me 12 months is stretching out into two years. I think it’s because life gets busy and I don’t always do a good job putting a priority on spending time in God’s word. Plus the book of Psalms is really long. Seriously, it’s like the War & Peace of the Bible.
I go slow now and I’m cool with that. And I think God is too.
