1. Churched by Matthew Paul Turner
Author Matthew Paul Turner has been incredibly kind and generous to me and this website. And he’s a fantastic writer. That’s why I’m excited to tell you about his new book “Churched.” He’s written a ton of books, was the editor of CCM and has a really popular blog, but I think this is going to be his best work to date. It’s basically a gut wrenchingly honest, yet funny, look at his experiences growing up in the church. It’s available today. Check out Churched.
2. Rebel by Lecrae
Since the death of D-boy, I honestly haven’t spent a whole lot of time listening to Christian rap. But people like Lecrae are wooing me back with a vengeance. It’s not easy to be a Christian rapper. You’re constantly fighting the urge to throw your entire testimony into every song. But Lecrae sidesteps that lyrical landmine while still remaining true to his faith. His new album “Rebel” is #4 on the iTunes most popular hip hop albums chart right now, only one behind Lil Wayne and higher on the charts than Young Jeezy and Kanye West. That is the ridiculous, but makes sense considering the greatness of this album. I worked on a project once with Reach Records and Lecrae and they are changing the face of Memphis with their ministry to reach people with music. Check out Rebel
